Abstract

With this number 4 of the Revista Médica del Uruguay closes the volume number 34, corresponding to the year 2018. The original and unpublished articles of this volume will compete for the Prize Medical Journal of Uruguay - Laboratorio Roemmers, which in this opportunity will be held in tribute to Dr. Tito Pais.

Tito Pais Figueira was born on September 7, 1944 in Montevideo. He obtained the title of Doctor of Medicine at the age of 27 and from an early age he had an intense union and political militancy.

In 1975, he was imprisoned by the dictatorship until 1978, when he was taken to the airport, where his wife Mary and three daughters aged 4, 6 and 8 were waiting for him.

They traveled together to Holland, a country that had offered him the status of political refugee. There the family began to rebuild their lives. First learn a language, find a place to live and raise girls, and then reinsert yourself into pediatrics. They went to live in Harmelen, a small village 40 kilometers from Amsterdam, and soon after, thanks to a Dutch doctor who knew and admired Caldeyro Barcia, he was able to continue his training and then work at the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital in Utrecht, obtaining the title of Specialist in Pediatrics of the Royal Society of Medicine of the Netherlands, in 1984 (...)
