A significative achievement for biomedical scientific production in Uruguay

Abstract

This edition that we present is a historical milestone in that process full of challenges and difficulties. This issue begins a new stage marked by a more ambitious editorial project: from now on, the RMU increases its frequency, to reach the demanding international standard of four annual editions, with a minimum of 80 pages and with a predominance of works originals. This change, whose economic viability is associated with the change in the distribution method, also means reinforcing electronic publishing with the creation of a new portal (www.rmu.org.uy) and the addition of more powerful search engines. The new project, whose details were exposed and consulted among readers, authors and referees (4,5), supposes to preserve the most outstanding and meritorious features of the RMU: the anonymous arbitration system and the free accessibility to the authors' production nationals.
The search for quality improvement continues to develop. Proof of this is that the Executive Committee recently approved a set of scientific suitability criteria necessary to integrate the Editorial Board, the body in charge of appointing the referees and making the final decisions on the publication of the manuscripts received. This is a plausible decision, since it would not be understood that the Editorial Board escaped the quality requirements.
Finally, it is appropriate to announce to the readers that the requirement regarding the ethical issues involved in biomedical research is one of the central concerns defined by the Editorial Committee for this new stage that inaugurates this fourth number of volume No. 21 of the RMU.
