Abstract

Lemierre’s syndrome constitutes a rare and potentially serious entity, that may complicate oropharyngeal infections. This condition includes thrombophlebitis of the internal jugular vein and distant septic embolisms. The study presents the clinical case of a young man who consulted after an upper respiratory infection, with internal jugular vein thrombosis, left sigmoid and transverse seins, also associating septic pulmonary embolism and pleural empyema. The patient had a positive evolution after empirical antibiotic, pleural drainage and anticoagulants.
We conducted literature review on this condition, focusing on clinical, epidemiological and microbiological aspects.
