Abstract
On Friday, June 10, 2011, at 78, Professor Barbara Starfield died in California, United States. The world lost one of its greatest people of recent times, the most medicine.
Starfield was a pediatrician and master in public health, fully dedicated to teaching and research in health services and policies at Johns Hopkins University, to which he was linked throughout his professional life.
Advocate and promoter of Primary Health Care and equity from its ethical and political implications, addressed in depth issues such as social determinants of health, access to health and health services in general, and child health in particular.
